> Standard Scheduled Flights. These are available all year round. Olympic Airlines (flying from London and Manchester) and Aegean (flying from London Stansted) both fly in and out of Heraklion. You will have to change in Athens (or possibly Thessaloniki) but they make access to the island possible from a host of cities around the world and at any time of the year.

Finding and Booking your hotel or apartment accommodation.

If you know exactly which independent accommodation you want to stay in then you should contact the hotel or apartment owners / management directly to enquire about availability, prices and to make your booking. They can book a driver to meet you at the airport should you wish to have a local taxi driver from the Elounda area.

Finding and Booking your airport transfer.

The easiest way is to not book and just take a taxi from the rank at Heraklion airport. In Summer 2008 the fare to Elounda harbour area was approximately 65 Euros. Taxis are commonly available and any wait should only be brief. In other locations it is possible to save money by pre-booking a taxi transfer online instead of taking one from the airport rank. The average price online for Heraklion to Elounda, at the time of checking, was approximately 65GBP whereas the price from the taxi rank at Heraklion airport to Elounda was 65 Euros, a useful saving. You would be charged a similar amount by a local Elounda taxi for the return journey. You could always use Crete's public transport. Today the buses are modern coaches and easily able to accommodate your luggage. In Summer 2008 Elounda to Ag Nik on the bus was 1.5 Euros and Ag Nik to Heraklion 6.5 Euros and is a good option for returning to the option in an afternoon. Another alternative is to book a hire car for collection and return to the airport. You can then drive yourself to and from the Elounda area. Package Holidays through a Holiday Company

The 'package holiday' is the single product pre-assembled holiday that has been the mainstay of the UK travel market for decades.
